Coral's Baby Shower
The most glamorous teddy bear's picnic there ever was, in honour of my very dear friend Coral, in anticipation of the arrival of her bundle of joy, Bo Valentine.
I have always loved the idea of taking something familiar and giving it an entirely different personality. A teddy bear's picnic might usually bring to mind picnic blankets, stuffed animals and afternoons in the garden, but this occasion called for a decidedly more glamorous interpretation.
We embraced the playful theme with warm, soft colours, beautiful balloons and plenty of little details that nodded to childhood without making the afternoon feel like a children's party. After all, this was a celebration of Coral as much as it was a welcome for the little person on the way.
One of the pleasures of planning a baby shower is the freedom to have some fun. You can take a familiar idea, give it a little twist and create an afternoon that feels completely personal to the guest of honour.
And when that guest of honour is one of your very dear friends, there is an extra reason to make a fuss.
There is something lovely about a celebration built around anticipation. Everyone has gathered for someone they love, with all the excitement and curiosity that comes with wondering who this new little person will turn out to be.
With the bubbles flowing and surrounded by loved ones, an incredible afternoon was had by all, not to mention the mouthwatering catering from the Delish Sisters.
I have always believed that good entertaining is about giving people the opportunity to relax and enjoy each other's company. The decorations may set the scene, but it is the conversations, laughter and people gathered together that make a celebration memorable.
Looking back at these photographs, I am reminded of how special it is to be part of the milestones in our friends' lives. And I can't think of a lovelier reason to throw a party than welcoming little Bo Valentine into the world.
