Buck & Brogan
I have been fortunate to know and work with Brogan for several years through her signage business The Glow Co. Whenever I want something custom made for a project, Brogan is my first point of call! Not only does she welcome a challenge, but she is not afraid to roll up her sleeves and get her hands dirty, and her experience and advice along that way as become invaluable to my business.
Although Brogan and I have known each other for some time professionally, it was through the process of planning her wedding that I really began to get to know her, Buck, and their families – each of whom were incredibly kind to share their Jehovah’s Witness faith with me as we sat for many hours discussing every detail about their special day. One such detail came from a discussion around the joy (and if I am honest, often ridiculed) of spreading the good news of the Jehovah’s Witness faith to those around them. This conversation reminded me of a Christian children’s song that I used to have on an old cassette tape, with lyrics to the tune of ‘Extra! Extra! Read all about it, it’s good news,’ and thus we decided to pay homage to the message in the form of the newspaper style wedding program, which has coincidently become a popular wedding trend again this year.
Over the past 16 years, I have been incredibly honoured and privileged to plan and witness innumerable personal celebration events, those to whom I have a personal connection always tugging on my heart stings a little more and hold a special place in your memory for years to come; nevertheless, something about this wedding was different. The love and joy that beamed from every guest in attendance was palpable and felt so genuine and pure that it had to be touched by the Divine.
This joy and love was captured by the incomparable Maresha Lee Photography, whom I had heard so much about and ogled at her enigmatic photos for countless hours, that by the time we finally met she already felt like an old friend. To say I am a fan is an understatement! Her artistry, unique perspective, and composition has brought a fresh dimension that blurs the lines between art, fashion, and ‘traditional’ wedding photography; and I feel her portraits have captured the essence of a vivacious couple on the threshold of one of life’s most remarkable adventures.
Special thanks to the entire teams at The Doolhof Hotel and Mila Restaurant in Wellington, Western Cape for your incredible catering and impeccable hosipitality that is only matched by the awe-inspiring views. Lastly, thank you Brogan for never taking no for an answer in any sphere of your life, and to you and your beautiful family for opening your hearts and sharing your faith and love with me.
