Clinton & Carlee
The Glades Farm was the perfect canvas for Carlee and Clinton's rustic, elegant wedding celebration.
A lover of flowers, Carlee was excited to do something different with the décor, so we created a hanging garden of pink-dyed penny gum, sprayed with subtle touches of gold and copper metallics.
Penny gum might not be the first thing that springs to mind when you think of wedding flowers, but that was part of the appeal. Rather than relying entirely on traditional arrangements, we could use the foliage itself to create shape, movement and a rather unexpected colour palette.
I have always enjoyed seeing how a familiar material can take on a completely different personality when you change its colour or the way it is presented. In this case, the softness of the pink worked beautifully against the more rustic character of the farm, while the metallic finishes brought a little glamour into the mix.
There were so many standout décor moments that it is hard to choose, but my personal favourites have to be the gorgeous round arch, completely covered in dyed penny gum and highlighted with metallic tones of yellow and rose gold.
I particularly liked the contrast between the natural shape of the foliage and the deliberate geometry of the arch. It felt a little unconventional without looking out of place, and gave the celebration a design detail that was very much its own.
For me, the pleasure of working on a wedding like this is being given the freedom to try something a little different. It doesn't always have to mean an entirely new idea. Sometimes it is simply a question of taking something familiar and finding a more interesting way to use it.
And, of course, Carlee's stunning Jeannelle la Amour wedding gown.
With so much attention given to the setting, it is lovely to remember that all of those decisions were made to frame one occasion: Carlee and Clinton getting married, surrounded by the people they wanted there. The decorations helped tell the story, but they were never meant to be the whole story.
